Another beautiful Hobart summer evening saw 43 paddlers head to Brown’s Rivulet for some riveting racing.

International competitor – World Number 4, Gerhard Schmid of Austria – was pleased that his trip to Australia was worthwhile, winning a coveted Brown’s Time Trial after a disappointing result in the previous race. "I can now go home satisfied and proudly proclaim by Brown’s victory – no-one will believe me, I can scarely believe it myself, but the result is on the board for all to see." said an excited and animated Gerhard after the race. "Cataract is nothing compared to Brown’s – I hope they move a World Cup race down here." Gerhard said.

In the return leg Handicap Race, Dave Lander won Line Honours in a close race with Josh Firth and Mugger Mitchell, ensuring he gets his hands on a rare and much sought-after bottle of Brown Duck Gold Medal Winning Vintage Shiraz.

On corrected Time, Matt Dalziel won easily from Benn Maynard and Gerhard. The finish and compiling officials, after double, triple, and quadruple checking the results and video evidence are still amazed at the gap he opened up on his competitors. Scurrilous rumours, obviously not supported by the DCC, are circulating that he bribed the starter. Start official Rosie Mollison and Matt were both unavailable for comment – both are allegedly holidaying in the Cayman islands. They referred us to their publicist.

The next race will be 3rd March.
